Mendelssohn-Haus Leipzig - Musiksalon

It all began with the second Mexican empire under Maximilian von Habsburg in the middle of the 19th century. The dual monarchy had a major influence on the development of Mexico's music and art world. From 1876 under president Porfirio Díaz, when the country turned away from the sphere of influence of the United States, this meant a reorientation of the Mexican cultural world along European lines.

The music resulting from this period is characterised by the lightness and elegance of the salons and clubs where Mexico's high society met, by the passion of poetry and by the soul of the people, which gave the music its unmistakable style.

The concert is also a musical journey of discovery through a world that is still present in the mysterious alleyways of the Mexican capital.

With operetta classics from the time of the dual monarchy by Johann Strauss, Franz Léhar, Arturo Tolentino, Fritz Kreisler and others.
